Edinburgh Castle is seriously old (12th century), and it's served as a fortress many times. As such, it looks nothing like later palace-style castles. I really loved all the moss growing on its walls.

To the right in this pic is St. Margaret's Chapel, the oldest building in Edinburgh. Early 12th century and still standing! I thought that was pretty damn impressive for being situated in a castle that's been attacked and laid siege to so many times.
