So, I have just a bit over a week to get going on my reading list before I arrive in Oxford. I'm working on Richard II, and though I appreciate the thoroughness of the Arden edition's introduction, it's painful to be so far into the text without having actually reached the play itself. I'm learning some valuable context for the play, but that doesn't help my antsiness - I have at least a dozen volumes to get through, or to at least start, before I leave!
To give an idea of what the list includes (keeping in mind that this is for only the first seminar; the second has its own book list):
Thomas More's Utopia
Christopher Marlowe's Edward II
William Shakespeare's Richard II, Julius Caesar, and Coriolanus
Philip Massinger's The Roman Actor
Edmund Spenser's The Faerie Queene, Book V
Various selected works from John Milton, Andrew Marvell and Thomas Middleton
Let's not even speak of the packing I've yet to accomplish...or even plan. No idea what I'm bringing, none whatsoever!
